About the Dayton House Resort

Dayton House Resort

History

Hosting family vacations since 1960...
In September of 1960, we moved from Monroe, NC to Myrtle Beach to operate the Dayton House, a 14 room beach cottage on the oceanfront. As was the custom in the 50's and 60's, the operators lived in the cottage and did everything that needed to be done, rented and cleaned rooms, did the laundry, did the maintenance, they did it all. That's the way it was at the Colonial Inn, the Martha Fickling, the Helena Villa, and the Parker House. That was Myrtle Beach; beach cottages, snow cones, putt putt, cruisin' the boulevard and rides at the Pavilion.

The more things change...
Myrtle Beach In the past 40 years, the Dayton House has changed. Once a sleepy little beach town that hosted Carolina vacationers from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Myrtle Beach has grown to be one of the top two vacation destinations on the East Coast, as well as the nations number one family beach, serving guests all year long from all over the globe. Besides the beautiful white, sandy beach, the Grand Strand now offers visitors golf galore, top name entertainment, world class dining, shopping and more shopping, almost anything they could want, including modern accommodations.

Dayton House In those 40 years, the Dayton House has changed as well. From it's humble beginnings as a 14 room cottage, the Dayton House has grown into a 328 room resort with five buildings spanning an entire oceanfront block. The pools, the lawn with umbrella covered tables, chairs and lounges, the new buildings including the 15 story all-suites addition, a video game room & gift shop, an exercise room, a guest laundry, and more have been added for the convenience of you, our guests. This year you will see some changes as well, which you can read about in this newsletter.

the more they remain the same...
Myrtle Beach During these times of change, a lot of what you like about the Dayton House has not changed. We still own and actively operate the Dayton House. It is their daily attention to the operation of their hotel that has continued guests returning year after year. "We're not the fanciest hotel around, but we offer our guest a vacation value." It's really simple, provide a clean, well maintained property with a family atmosphere and your guest will return year after year. We have watched people raise their families in the past 40 years and now host up to four generations in some families."
